CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuana chess standout Maria Kristine Lavandero of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters is still taking in a breakthrough performance that firmly marked her arrival on the national stage. Lavandero emerged as one of the brightest performers in chess at the Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur, where she captured three gold medals in the secondary girls’ division—ruling the individual standard event before adding gold medals in both the standard team and blitz team competitions.
