MANILA, Philippines — Former Ateneo School of Government dean Tony La Viña has publicly expressed his support for Education Secretary Sonny Angara, commending the latter’s disciplined, policy-driven leadership and legislative independence. In a statement titled “Why Supporting Sonny Angara Makes Sense,” La Viña emphasized that public officials should be evaluated based on competence rather than political lineage. “Rejecting dynasties as a structural problem should not blind us to competence when it is evident,” he said.
